Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) IMDB rating: 6.40 Plot: On their way to Riker’s and Troi’s honeymoon, the Enterprise is sent near the neutral zone to Romulan space, and picks up a prototypic twin of android Data. Immediately they are further sent to Romulus, where a new praetor, Shinzon, a human cloned from Captain Picard who lives on the slave planet Remus, appears to want peace with the Federation. But then the crew detects a break-in on their computer systems, and Picard is captured by the Remans because Shinzon needs him as his only matching supplier of genetic material. Picard and the Enterprise can escape, only to find themselves battling Shinzon’s completely cloaked Warbird, who is after the complete destruction of earth.

Has the new Star Trek movie obliterated the Star Trek franchise?
SInce the success of the new film, new people have been wooed to the franchise - however, many are discovering that the franchise is nowhere as great as the new film.

In addition, the franchise as it was prior to the film is now "set in an alternate" universe - and is no longer relevant. Its gone.

Of course there will be some who will resent that notion - but I somehow cannot see Paramount splashing huge amounts of cash on that time-line anymore - the last time they did - it was called Nemesis.

New fans who like the film MAY have to wait for the sequel or a new series - and that could take years.

Has Paramount chucked out the baby with the bathwater?

I would say that it is the other way around. The new film, in combination with the ill fated Enterprise series have actually done a lot of harm to the franchise. They haven’t made it irrelevant, they have tainted the name of Star Trek, and people who see them won’t bother to look at the older ones.

The original star trek and TNG, plus the original films had a massive cult following that sustained the Star Trek franchise for decades through conventions and merchandise, not to mention video games and DVD sales.

However, enterprise and the new film do NOT have this cult following. They are highly polished yet highly generic action/adventure properties that have failed to attract a sustainable audience, and which have actually turned off a lot of potential fans who have seen Enterprise and the new movie and instead of becoming interested in the originals have labeled them as being dumb action movies/series without even watching them. And thus have not become fans and have not gone on to support the franchise by buying merchandise or attending conventions.

This is a complete disaster. A new generation of fans has been lost before they were even found, and it will cost Start Trek in the long term by killing off potential sources of revenue. While the existing fan base ages and dwindles it is not being replaced because of these dumb movies/series.

Nemesis was a a mistake, In fact it was exactly the same mistake. Both the new film and Nemesis were action movies with a Star Trek theme, not actual Star Trek movies. They were aimed at action movie fans, not Star Trek fans. They took out most of the adventure and the science fiction and ended up making Die Hard in space. which frankly sucked.

There won’t be any new films using the old actors, not because the new film killed off the franchise, but because most of the original/TNG actors are old and wrinkly and only really suited for cameos, and because they don’t want to do a new film because they know that the studios will ruin it like they did with Nemesis.

It’s true that I (not a trekkie) am not going to check out all the previous Star Trek films. I’ve seen a couple of them on TV, have watched some episodes of the series .. but it now feels dated. I’m totally digging the new crew and look forward to seeing more of them. Especially Spock, he’s always been my fave char and Quinto is perfect.

I don’t get your question. What Paramount wisely did is to lift the franchise out of its narrow niche. Look at the box office numbers of the previous Star Trek films! Not impressive at all. The new Star Trek is doing tremendously well. So what’s the problem?

The canon information up until the point at which the movie split off into the "alternate universe" still IS relevant. Just saying.

I’m a new fan. I’ll be waiting for the sequels. I’m sure there won’t be a new series with all the actors they used in the new film.

By the way, I may enjoy action films, but that does not make me a neanderthal. And if it turns out that the next film is reported to have little to no action, I’ll STILL show up to watch it. I’ll be happy to watch it.

Future boss making me feel uncomfortable, am I over reacting or should I leave situation?
My best friend set me up this job with her Brother-in-law working in a motorcycle shop. We (the Brother-in-law & I) have been emailing each other back and forth for the past few weeks or so because he is prepping me for what is going to happen during shows and whatever and in the shop (I live out of state and i’m going to travel to the job). Recently he has been saying things such as " In the meantime, you can unpack and look for those pants for me… or we can just throw caution to the wind and we will just have you wear thongs to the motorcycle events.." and " Your youth and attractiveness will give you a little forgiveness so think about attire to use assets to your advantage", "Do you have any current photos you can send." "Need you to resend personal photos and more if you have them. Holy jeans are great, not a requirement… But toga shots are a must. Smile, i am playing with you… A few photos would be great."

How do I deal with this without losing a really great potential job? And do you think I am being too sensitive?

Please answer because I’m supposed to leave with him on Thursday and I could use some advice.
I’m an 18 year old female and he is late 20’s early 30’s to put that in perspective, not that I think that should even matter because he is my future boss.
I can usually hold my own when it comes to this, and I love the industry, but i am deff new at it and i don’t want to give it up just because I get hit on, but i also don’t want to be treaded like a piece of meat by my boss.

having worked in the industry for a few years and having been raised in a family where riding motorcycles sit right up at the top of our list of important things to do, being able to hold your own is a pretty important skill. Part of the industry whether any one wants to admit it or not is simply that sometimes people do buy things based on who is selling it, and though it may seem sexist, alot of bikers/men will buy something from a hot chick as opposed to a not so hot chick….

I would question the photos unless he hasnt met you at all, in which case maybe he wants to see your personal style, so he knows what to expect. and even though it seems rude, your "assets" as he said, will give you a advantage….and he knows it. Theres a reason He isnt selling at these shows, LOL

***also maybe you should go online and check out peoples pics of sturgis and other bike events, so you can see what you are up headed towards. wardrobes tend to be based on personal choice and often all too revealing…. It isnt like he blatantly hit on you, or asked for sexual favors…..

Ok my question is about the money the baddie (Travolta) makes from investing in gold. He turns 2 million into 300 million in one day, anticipating the market as a result from the terror/kidnap situation they create in NYC. He does this by investing in gold, I don’t know much about this area but I have always thought of gold as a long term investment. So is it realistic that such an event could cause him to make as much money as he did, or are the figures way off and just hollywood fantasy?
I don’t know anything about gold options either, so is it possible to make a 15000% profit in one day as in the movie?

Crown for tooth with possible fracture?
Would it be bad to get crown prep on a tooth with a possible fracture? I have an appt. with the endodontist next week, but the dentist wants to go ahead with crown prep. It’s a minimal expense to me, but it’s just the process going through it. If there is a fracture, will it hurt anything? Or if there isn’t, will it be bad for the endodontist?

Advice encouraged.

Actually it is best to have a crown on a tooth with a fracture. It is the only way to hold the tooth together. However, if there is a possible ROOT fracture, nothing can save it.

So find out what type of fracture you have before treatment is began.

We don’t start the crown until after the root canal treatment is completed. It is a waste of time. If the root canal is not successful, or if the endodontist finds a root fracture, the tooth has to come out and all of the time and expense of starting the crown is wasted. We wait about two weeks to begin the crown.

I suggest waiting to schedule the crown prep appointment.

If you have a fracture in your tooth and it has not progress into or near the nerve, then a crown done ASAP is advisable to avoid a root canal. Once a fracture reaches the pulp (nerve), a root canal will be necessary. However, I have treated many cases of fractured teeth where the fracture line has not reached the nerve yet so by putting a crown on the tooth, it stops the fracture dead in its tracks.

If the tooth needs a root canal, it would better to have that done first and then crown the tooth. The tooth can be protected in the meantime by cementing a copper band around it to reinforce it.

If the tooth hurts only when you bite on it, then the fracture has probably not reached the nerve yet. If the tooth hurts all the time and hurts if you press on it with your tongue, then pulpal damage is likely. Your general dentist needs to do more diagnostic procedures to try to find out what the status of the tooth is.

So, to answer your question, if there is a fracture, and a root canal is not necessary, then a crown needs to be placed ASAP. However, if there is a fracture and it has caused irreversible nerve damage, then the root canal should be done first and followed by a crown. A endodontist will not do a root canal unless he is sure that one is necessary (at least, that’s the way it should be). Having a crown already on the tooth will make his job more difficult.

Okayyy soo I have to tell my guy friend about my feels that i had for him.
I wrote it yesterday, got some feedback and revised it with some people from yahoo answers(yeahh im strange like that) and from some friends at school.

If you can just look at my revised, tell me to add some things or delete some things. I’m trying to make it short as possible…believe me the last one had alot of details…
I tried to make it not to much cuz the first one i wrote was really long. Haha. I tried not to say alot of things sooo my guy friend can ask questions(he always ask questions anyways) and not me tell him everything. I didn’t try to make it emotional but if there is any lines that i shouldn’t say. Please tell me. I’m thinking of cutting the whole part off except when i get to the girly feeling…Suggestions?
So anny advice. Even if it’s okay can you just tell me that it’s okay or nice? Anything will be appericiated. :]

Soooo Jayyyyy :].So basically you already know how i feel about. Like how you make me smile and laugh and all that stuff.Haha you’re sexy. I know i don’t tell you that but really you’re cute.I mean i know we are friends and i have plenty of guy friends that are cute and cool like you but like…the kind of relationship we have…i feel like its more then that.There is something there.
But times, i feel like you don’t care about me.Like when you leave or say "brb" and leave without saying goodbye,i know you don’t mean it but it kinda hurts.Cuz it’s like me waiting for you and you leaving me like that.You can always tell me that you gotta go quick and get off.I mean people do that but i guess that not talking to you that it hurts…i just wish there are times you just say. "Gotta go, bye."You don’t even gotta call me Buttercup or say "miss you" as long as you said bye or notified me that you are leaving.So i wanted to keep distance from you.To not get on your jock all the time and ****.I mean I’m so paranoid that you don’t really like me.Haha.Like when i care about someone,i worry if they at least feel the same way or care for me too.Remember when i accidently said something and you were mad at me?I was soo worried you weren’t gonna talk to me or like me anymore.I hella ruined the moment cuz i was sooo hyper that day.And when you don’t reply backkk….i felt really nervous.
Sooo My girly feeling.Remember that night when we had that thing…like how you were into me as much i was into you.I had this feeling and i wasn’t sure about it.But i had the urge to tell you.I tell you everything,seriously.But at the same time i knew that i couldn’t say cuz if i did, it would mess up everything and i don’t wanna risk our friendship.Yeah my girly feeling was about you.i wanted to say that I love you.
I wanted to just say only that. Not no "I love you buddy!" or "Love you Grandpa/Old Man". I mean I love you like a friend but at the same time i don’t,more like than a friend.And i know i would’nt be comfortable saying "I love you friend".I wanted to say this sooo badly but i didn’t want you to get the wrong idea.And you thinking that i was trying to get with you. I didn’t want you thinkin that i was clingy.Cuz i know its not like that.To be honest, i don’t know what you feel about me.I know you said you were into me.But idk.And you know i don’t want that little thing we had (or if we still have it…up to you), to grow.I don’t want you to be fallin for me,when you have a girlfriend.I just didn’t wanna lose what we had (our friendship). I didn’t want you to think of me like that.Cuz i swear im not.And espicially when i wasn’t sure if i was in love because i was a little in love but not fully.
Why did i cry that night over my girly feeling?Cuz i was confused.And i worried that what i felt was wrong.That i should have never fall in love with you.
So that’s all i gotta say. Now JayR, you can either be freaked out, be like "this ***** is crazy" and never talk to me. I hella understand. Or you can reply back. Whatever you want to do, it’s all up to you.I know you probably never felt the way i felt for you (the whole "I Love You" thing) and it’s okay.I mean you’re in Sac, I’m in L.A.You have Daisy or whatever your girlfriend’s name is.Maybe we are just gonna be always friends.And i would still love that. No matter what i still want to be your friend. And if you don’t feel the same way,i respect that.It’s gonna hurt.But I’m a big girl.I’ll get over it.And,I’m never gonna hate you if you feel like that.You are always gonna be someone i care about.I can’t even bring myseslf to say "**** JayR".I don’t know why,I guess you are just somehow special to me.But i just had to tell you what i needed to say.

JayR, SO… you remember that night that I was all freaked out and crying because of that "girly feeling" that I had. Here’s the deal. I think that I’ve fallen in love with you, but I’m not sure that you feel the same. I know you have a girlfriend and don’t live in the same town but that never stopped us from being friends. we’re great friends and no matter how you feel or even if you’re completely freaked out by this… I don’t want to loose that friendship or (more importantly) you. So think about it and let me know if you think that this could develop into something more. Cause, seriously, I think that you’re awesome as a friend, as a some-day boyfriend, as a person. So let me know. I’ll be waiting and worrying so ….

you know something like that but make it sound more like you. Less of the "like remember when" stuff and more direct feelings. If you’re confused about the severity of your feelings, tell him. Look, I was in a similar situation in school and never made a move. and I think you SHOULD tell him. but do it directly. good luck.
